On April 19 & 20, 2024, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC), a division of Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), successfully organized the Training course on Mediator Skills (Advanced Course). Following the success of the basic courses organized by VMC, this advanced course focused on the specialized skills Mediators in the dispute resolution process.

The training course brought together a diverse group of participants, including lawyers, in-house counsels, legal practitioners, and lecturers from law institutions. The lecturers in the training course comprised both Vietnamese and foreign VMC’s Listed Mediators. These experts are recognized for their extensive experience in commercial mediation and have also dedicated years to teaching dispute resolution courses for lawyers and businesses.

The training course provided participants with in-depth knowledge of the Mediator's role and skills in resolving disputes between parties. This included essential skills such as communication skill, negotiation skill, and persuasion skill. Alongside theoretical instruction, participants are engaged in discussions, role-playing exercises, and practical case studies to review their mediation skills. This valuable experience allowed participants to receive feedback and guidance from experienced Mediators, helping them to identify their strengths and weaknesses for improvement, ultimately refining their mediation expertise.

Feedback on the course, the participants said that the content is highly practical, providing them with a comprehensive overview of the roles and skills of a Mediators. Additionally, the lecturers, who are experienced and enthusiastic mediators themselves, have a keen understanding of the participants, igniting their passion for the field of mediation and enabling them to show their full potential. Following the course, some lawyers have provided positive feedbacks and committed to bringing their disputing cases to mediation at VMC.
The results of the course and the positive feedback from participants are the motivation for VMC to continue organizing training courses. This would further enhance dispute resolution capabilities for businesses, lawyers, and legal practitioners through commercial mediation and, simultaneously, promoting and developing the field of mediation in Vietnam.
